Khorinis - Upper Quarter
The Upper Quarter is the most prestigious and best-protected district of Khorinis. Here live the city's wealthy and influential citizens – the governor Larius, the judge, and rich merchants such as the overseas trader Fernando, the artifact dealer Lutero, and the alchemist Salandril. Since the arrival of the paladins, Lord Hagen has established his headquarters in the town hall and commands the entire expedition to the Valley of Mines from there. The paladins Albrecht, Cedric, and Ingmar serve here as instructors and advisors, while Girion guards the Esmeralda at the deep-sea harbor. Access is restricted to respected citizens, master craftsmen, militia members, and servants of Innos – strangers are turned away by the gate guards, and the militia soldier Wambo patrols at night but can be bribed by the thieves' guild to look the other way during burglaries. Behind hidden walls with concealed switches in the homes of the wealthy lie the most precious belongings, as the governor's gardener reveals to guild members. The secretary Cornelius also resides here – the bribed witness who accused the mercenary blacksmith Bennet of murdering Lothar. After Gerbrandt fled the quarter in panic upon receiving a letter from Diego, Diego took over his house and built a new life there.
