Cornelius

Cornelius is the secretary to the governor Larius in the city of Khorinis. He was called as an alleged eyewitness to the murder of the paladin Lothar and testified against the mercenary blacksmith Bennet – claiming he saw the mercenary strike the paladin from behind and thrust a sword into his chest. But his testimony is a lie: Cornelius was paid to incriminate Bennet. Nervous and evasive, he initially tries to brush the hero off with excuses and arrogance. Only under pressure – whether through gold, threats from the mercenaries, or the prospect of a painful interrogation at the monastery – does he confess the truth: he never witnessed the murder and took the money because he needed it in these hard times. He refuses to name his employer but hands over his diary as proof that clears Bennet's name. After that, he can no longer stay in the city.
