Bennet's in Prison
When the hero returns from the Valley of Mines in Chapter 3, Hodges at Onar's Farm reveals that Bennet has been arrested by the paladins and is locked up in the city prison. He stands accused of murdering the paladin Lothar. Hodges was with Bennet when they were chased through the city, but got separated and fled alone. The mercenaries are furious — some would rather storm the city than leave Bennet to rot. Hodges suggests talking to Lee about what can be done. The key to freeing Bennet lies with Cornelius, the secretary to the governor Larius, who falsely testified as the sole eyewitness. His diary contains the truth — and there are several ways to get it.
Rewards
900–1000 XP total (750 XP from Lord Hagen, 150–250 XP from Lee depending on chapter). Guild reward from Bennet: Amulet of Life Force (+40 HP) as mage/militia/paladin, or Light Dragon Hunter Armor as Dragon Hunter.
Walkthrough
Go to the barracks in Khorinis and visit Bennet in prison. Talk to him about what happened.
Speak with Lord Hagen in the Upper Quarter and ask about Bennet's case. He reveals that the sole witness is Cornelius, the secretary to the governor Larius.
Go upstairs and confront Cornelius. There are several ways to obtain his diary:
- **Intimidation:** Keep pressuring him in dialogue until the threaten option appears. He hands over the diary voluntarily.
- **Force:** Knock him out (do NOT kill him) and take the diary from his body.
- **Pickpocket:** Steal the diary from him directly.
- **Bribery and ambush:** Give him gold, then follow him as he flees the city. He runs to a bandit cave near Akil's Farm. Knock him out there and take back your gold.
Read the diary — it proves Cornelius lied about witnessing the murder.
Return to Lord Hagen and present the evidence (750 XP). Bennet is released from prison.
Report back to Lee at Onar's Farm that Bennet is free (150–250 XP depending on whether it is Chapter 3, 4, or 5).

- Fire Mage, Water Mage, Militia, or Paladin: Amulet of Life Force (+40 Health)
- Dragon Hunter: Light Dragon Hunter Armor
