Jeremiah is the distiller of the New Camp. He runs the still at the back of Silas' tavern and turns the harvest from the rice fields into the schnapps the camp drinks through the long nights. The work is exhausting but steady, and as long as he keeps the bottles coming the Rice Lord's enforcers leave him in peace. He has opinions about every crew in the camp and hands a free bottle to the hero when they first step up to his counter. From him the hero learns that the farmer Horatio holds a quiet grudge against the Rice Lord - the crucial opening that unlocks Horatio's willingness to teach the strength technique.
