Scorpio is a guardsman of the Old Camp who serves Gomez at the castle and drills his fellow guards in combat, crossbow work first and foremost - for a substantial fee and only to fellow guards, since rank gets respected before coin in his book. When Gomez orders the Fire Mages murdered, Scorpio wants no part of it and simply walks out of the castle, taking a handful of good blades from the armoury and moving into Cavalorn's hunting hut in the wilderness - effectively quitting Gomez's service in the same move. From there he sells weapons to anyone who finds him and still teaches the crossbow to those who earn the lesson.
