Cor Kalom is the Master of Novices of the Brotherhood of the Sleeper and the alchemist who keeps the whole cult running - second only to Y'Berion and far more dangerous than him. He refines the swampweed strains and the minecrawler-mandible secret that carry the sect's visions of the Sleeper, and he sends the hero to the Old Mine for the eggs of a crawler queen when the ordinary secret runs too thin. When the Great Calling goes catastrophically wrong and Y'Berion dies, Kalom abandons the Swamp Camp with his last fanatics and marches straight into the Sleeper's Temple, convinced that direct worship will rouse his god. The ritual works. It costs him his life - and the Sleeper is torn out of the world moments after waking.
