Tarrok is an orc captured years ago by mercenaries of the New Camp and kept as a slave at the Free Mine. He is a friend of the shaman Ur-Shak, who escaped the mine years ago - Tarrok was too sick at the time to go with him. When Gomez's guards storm the cauldron, Tarrok flees deeper into the mine and is bitten by a minecrawler; only the hero fetching his lost medicine saves his life. In gratitude he forges the hero an Ulu-Mulu, an orcish symbol of friendship that opens the gates of the Orc City - assembled from a firelizard tongue, a shadowbeast horn, swamp-shark teeth and a troll tusk.
