Lefty is the Rice Lord's right hand on the rice fields of the New Camp. He leads a small gang of enforcers who drag farmers out of their huts each morning and beat the slow ones back into line. When the hero arrives he tries the same routine - either volunteer for the water-carrying round or get thrashed into volunteering. After the hero defeats him in single combat, Lefty swallows his pride and takes over the water run himself, hauling the pails he once forced on everyone else.
