Lares is the leader of the bandits of the New Camp and Lee's right hand - before the colony one of the greatest thieves in Myrtana, inside the Barrier the man who decides who joins the bandits, organises the raids on the Old Camp's ore convoys and distributes the loot among his men. His bandits double as couriers for the Water Mages, which is why Thorus cannot simply have Mordrag killed. The hero enters his cave with Mordrag's ring as calling card and earns his full trust by "borrowing" the Old Mine's supply list and by relieving Guru Baal Isidro of his 400-ore swamp-weed stash. Once admitted as a bandit the hero is sent to support Mordrag on the Brotherhood reconnaissance, and Lares trains any bandit willing in strength and dexterity up to the hundred mark.
