Serpentes

Serpentes is one of the three archmages of the Khorinis monastery and a member of the High Council alongside Pyrokar and Ulthar. He is the only mage who entered as an outsider by demanding and passing the dreaded Trial of Fire – all others who attempted it died. This makes him self-satisfied but also more ruthless and curt than his brothers. During the Trial of Fire, he sets the novice the most difficult task: "Defeat the living rock" – a golem that only the Hammer of Innos can destroy. He immediately suspects the novice must have stolen the holy hammer from the artifact chamber. Serpentes is a strict follower of Innos who knows no mercy: when Pedro stole the Eye of Innos, he secretly hired mercenaries to assassinate him. On behalf of the church, he also pursues the fraud involving forged mining shares and sends the hero to bring the alchemist Salandril to the monastery for judgment. He treats novices with contempt and throws them out of his study.
