The monastery of Fire sits on a rock in a lake at the heart of the Khorinis valley, connected to the shore by a long bridge. It was built before the reign of King Rhobar I and has not changed much since. Behind its walls: magicians, novices, a herb garden, a wine cellar, a library, a church, and in the vaults below, an alchemy lab and a room containing artifacts that the monastery does not advertise.
The novices keep sheep, make cheese, and study the basics of alchemy and inscription until they are considered ready for more. Most of them are waiting. Pyrokar, the supreme Fire Mage, decides who advances and who does not. The monastery answers to Innos and to nobody else, which puts it in quiet tension with the Paladins who have set up in Khorinis. Both serve the same god. They do not agree on much else.
