Parlan

Parlan is a Fire Mage at the Monastery of Khorinis and the overseer of the novices. He stands directly behind the monastery gate, greets every visitor, and manages all aspects of monastery life. He tells new novices that their past no longer matters – all previous transgressions are forgiven upon admission. He assigns work tasks, from sweeping the novice chambers to wine deliveries, and decides when a novice has served enough to gain library access. For rule violations, he acts as judge and imposes gold fines – serious offenses are referred to the High Council. Parlan teaches novices how to increase their magical power and instructs new Fire Mages in the first three circles of magic as well as rune crafting for healing spells, light, wind fist, sleep, fear, and destroy undead. He directs paladins to Master Marduk and warns everyone else to leave the novices alone. He is strict but fair – and tolerates no distractions from the work meant to purify his charges' spirits.
