Raven is one of the Ore Barons of the Old Camp and the right hand of Gomez; anyone seeking an audience with Gomez speaks to Raven first. With Gomez's approval he inducts newly admitted Shadows, hands them their first shadow armour and sends them on their first errand for the barons - the hero's being the reconnaissance of the Brotherhood's great summoning in the swamp camp. He keeps himself sharply informed about the movements and intentions of the other camps, trusting nothing and verifying everything before a report ever reaches Gomez. Unlike most of his fellow barons he survives the fall of the Barrier and walks out of the colony alive.
