Homer is a farmer of the New Camp and one of its founding members, a former craftsman who left the Old Camp with Lee and the Water Mages to help build the new settlement around the ore pile. As master builder he raised the dam that cuts the river into the camp's lake and protects the rice fields below, and he still keeps watch over it from the parapet. When a lurker starts gnawing at the dam's foundations and threatens to collapse the whole thing onto the fields, Homer asks the hero to put the creature down - a favour he repays by sleeping soundly again for the first time in weeks.
