Canthar

Canthar is a traveling merchant in the city of Khorinis and a sleazy, calculating man with far-reaching connections. Outside the city gates, he offers forged passes to escaped convicts – not out of kindness, but to secure a favor in return. In the city, he schemes to take over the weapon dealer Sarah's market stall by goading the hero into planting an incriminating letter on her and denouncing her to Lord Andre for smuggling weapons to Onar. If the hero refuses, Canthar threatens to spread word of his past as a convict among the merchants, ensuring that no trader at the marketplace will do business with him. Even imprisonment barely slows him down: thanks to his connections, he buys his freedom quickly and takes over Sarah's stall regardless. Restoring one's reputation with the merchants costs 500 gold pieces paid directly to Canthar. He also deals in forged mining shares on the side.
