Bronko

Bronko is a farmhand at Sekob's farm who dodges fieldwork and instead illegally collects toll from passersby – five gold pieces, or a beating. He brazenly poses as the farm's owner, though he is nothing but a lazy good-for-nothing. Nobody dares confront him because he has the strength of a bear. Only Onar's mercenaries frighten him. Sekob's son Till was supposed to get him back to work but failed miserably. The hero eventually forced Bronko back to the fields – either through persuasion, a beating, or the threat of siccing Onar and his mercenaries on him. The last option works most reliably: at the mere word "mercenaries," Bronko becomes meek and begs not to have them called.
