Beliar
Beliar is the god of darkness, death, and destruction – the eternal adversary of his brother Innos. He came into being when Innos divided himself, for his light shone too brightly for mortal life. But the light caused Beliar pain and he began to hate his brother, destroying everything he created. When humans slept at night instead of praying to him, he created death in his rage, trading worship for fear. His gifts to the world are the night, undeath, dark magic, lightning, poison, and disease. His servants include dragons, orcs, lizardmen, demons, and the undead. A few humans also entered his service – among them Raven, who was to lead the dragons to the mainland as general, and Xardas, who pretended to accept his offer only to use the knowledge gained against him. His most powerful artifact is the Claw of Beliar, the incarnation of destruction itself, hidden in the Temple of Adanos in Jharkendar. Four summoning temples were built in his name, the most fearsome being the Halls of Irdorath, where his avatar – the undead dragon – commanded the armies of darkness. Two temples were destroyed during the paladins' crusades; the other two vanished. In the end, the hero killed Beliar's last chosen one and left the known world with Xardas – thus Beliar's influence was finally banished.
