Balthasar

Balthasar is an old, weary shepherd at Sekob's farm who has been doing his work for as long as he can remember. His sheep are loyal and clever – treat them well and they'll follow you for a lifetime. The problem: the grass on Sekob's side of the fields is thin and parched, so Balthasar likes to take the animals up to the Pasture Plateau near Bengar. But Bengar makes a fuss every time and demands toll from Sekob, who of course won't pay a single coin. So Balthasar is banned from the plateau – until the hero mediates with Bengar. In gratitude, Balthasar gives him ten sheep pelts. He has waited for years in vain for the stingy Sekob to finally approve an apprentice for him. Balthasar also observed bandits carrying a heap of weapons and a young girl heading into the forest by the field's edge.
