Samuel
Samuel is a pirate and the distiller of the crew of Captain Greg in Jharkendar, enjoying a special status among his crewmates thanks to his role as supplier of the beloved spirits. He has set up his distillery in a small cave slightly apart from the pirate camp, where he is never short of visitors. His philosophy is simple: a real spirit should be clear and strong, flowing down the throat like liquid fire. To keep the crew supplied, he prioritizes quantity over quality when necessary – brewing grog with brackish water when clean drinking water runs low, or storing rum in old herring barrels that give it a fishy taste. Rum, he declares, is the "mother's milk of every seaman." His pride and joy is his own creation, the "Quick Herring" – a notoriously potent concoction that the crew calls devil's brew. He eagerly adopts new recipes from any source, showing enthusiastic interest in the spirits of the bandit cook Lou – the Hammer and the Double Hammer – which he immediately adds to his menu. As someone who knows everyone's secrets and controls the flow of spirits, nobody in the crew dares cross him. Samuel is also well-informed about the scheming of Francis – he once stood watch with him and overheard Francis mumbling in his sleep about something hidden in an abandoned mine in the canyon, a tip he gladly shares with the hero to help expose the corrupt paymaster. After the orc invasion of Khorinis, the surviving humans were transported to the mainland on orc galleys and given a choice between slavery or serving as orc mercenaries – what became of Samuel is unknown.
