Oric
Oric is the strategic officer of the king and a paladin serving as tactical advisor to Commander Garond at the castle in the Valley of Mines. A kind, older man with unwavering faith in Innos, he is one of the last paladins remaining at the fortress. His brother fell at the pass while trying to deliver a message to Khorinis – news the hero delivers via the scout Jergan, a blow that Oric accepts as a test of Innos. Oric provides the hero with detailed intelligence about the Valley of Mines, the orcs, and the locations of all four dragons: the swamp dragon in the marshes west of the old castle, the rock dragon in the southern mountain fortress, the fire dragon at the volcano, and the ice dragon in the western ice region. He devises the plan to eliminate the orc shaman Hosh-Pak, whose command post sits on a cliff south of the castle overlooking the siege – cutting off the head of the snake to buy the garrison at least another week. He offers the hero a choice of supplies before each mission: healing potions, mana elixirs, a strength elixir, or a dexterity elixir. Despite the desperate situation – surrounded, starved, and outnumbered – Oric never loses faith that Innos will lead them safely out of the valley.
