Lester

Lester is one of the hero's oldest friends, a former member of the Brotherhood of the Sleeper who was thrown into the Barrier after killing two militia soldiers while trying to escape arrest – though he claims it was self-defense. In the penal colony, he joined the Swamp Camp and learned psi-abilities from the gurus, earning the respect of even the templars through his reliability. He was one of the first to befriend the hero in the Swamp Camp, helping him navigate the social minefield of the gurus by staging a fake conversation about the Sleeper to impress his master Baal Namib. Later, he accompanied the hero to the old mountain fortress to find a focus stone, where he sought an ancient property deed granting ownership of much of the Valley of Mines. He met with his friends Diego, Gorn, and Milten at a secret location before the final battle.

When the Barrier collapsed, Lester was one of only three Brotherhood members who resisted the last command of the Sleeper and kept their sanity. He fled through the forests in a days-long odyssey and found refuge in a small valley near the tower of Xardas, where the hero encountered him again. He reported seeing a massive black shadow engulfing fleeing refugees in a wall of fire – possibly a dragon, though his severe headaches and hallucinations since the fall made him unsure. The hero sent him to Xardas to report the sighting. Lester later waited at the pass into the Valley of Mines and handed the hero a teleport rune to Xardas when the Seekers began appearing across the island.

The Seekers – the soulless remnants of his former Brotherhood – caused Lester constant pain, with his headaches worsening every time one appeared nearby. He understood what they were: his people, the former Brotherhood of the Sleeper, now mindless servants of evil. After the dragons were slain, Xardas vanished and left Lester a letter for the hero – which Lester read out of curiosity but couldn't understand a word of. He accompanied the hero to Irdorath, where his instincts proved invaluable: he was the only one who sensed that Mario was not what he seemed, warning the hero to watch his back. When Mario walked unharmed through the orc lines during the attack, Lester's suspicion was confirmed. After the hero destroyed the undead dragon on Irdorath, Lester's headaches vanished instantly – the hold of the Sleeper's power was finally broken. He sailed to the mainland with his friends, free at last.
