Jan

Jan is a Dragon Hunter who came to the Valley of Mines hoping to earn gold not through fighting dragons but through smithing. He joined the group of Sylvio from the mountains but had no interest in plundering dragon hoards – he wanted to forge the weapons and armor that everyone desperately needed. When Sylvio moved on from the castle, Jan stayed behind. His problem: the paladins refused to let him use the forge. Only after the original smith Dobar fled the castle and the hero convinced Garond to allow it – vouching personally for Jan – was he permitted to work. Since then, he produces weapons for the paladins and anyone else who needs them. Jan is an accomplished smith who teaches the craft of forging, including the technique of making ore blades harder. For Dragon Hunters who bring him 20 dragon scales, he crafts a medium Dragon Hunter armor – one of only two known smiths capable of this, the other being Bennet. The armor costs 12,000 gold pieces, a price Jan defends unapologetically despite the hero's protests about having vouched for him. He also buys dragon blood at good prices. After the orc invasion of Khorinis, the surviving humans were transported to the mainland on orc galleys and given a choice between slavery or serving as orc mercenaries – what became of Jan is unknown.
