The Fortress

The fortress in the Valley of Mines was built before the penal colony existed and outlasted it. It sits on the main plain of the valley and for a long time served as the administrative center for the ore mining operation. It was never meant to be a last stand.

That is what it has become. When the Sleeper fell, his dying call brought the orcs. The dragons came with them. Everything outside the fortress walls is gone. The surrounding orc camps have the building encircled on all sides, and the only way in is over a makeshift ramp built from a destroyed battering ram. Garond commands the garrison from inside. He came here to extract ore for King Rhobar. Now he sends his men out on missions from a besieged fort and waits to see who comes through the gate next.
