The Castle

The castle in the Valley of Mines is the oldest part of the former Old Camp of the penal colony and once served as the seat of power for the ore barons under Gomez. After the fall of the Barrier, Commander Garond and his paladins seized the castle as headquarters for the expedition into the Valley of Mines, tasked with mining magical ore for the king. But almost as soon as the troops arrived, dragons attacked, killing many soldiers and destroying the entire outer ring. Orcs laid siege to the remaining fortress, cutting it off from the outside world. Garond dispatched three mining parties under Marcos, Fajeth, and Silvestro, but all suffered heavy losses – one was completely wiped out. The Fire Mage Milten advised Garond on ore matters, Oric served as tactical officer, and the former convicts Diego and Gorn were initially held as prisoners in the castle. Despite the hopeless situation, Garond held fast to his mission until the hero slew the dragons of the Valley of Mines and Lord Hagen launched a rescue mission from Khorinis.
