Scavenger

Scavengers are large flightless birds found on the island of Khorinis and on the mainland. They populate forests and meadows, gathering in packs of two or more. When threatened, they emit a loud screech and waggle their heads menacingly to warn opponents. If the warning is ignored, they attack with their sharp beaks. The best strategy is to lure individual scavengers away from the pack – they make perfect practice for inexperienced fighters, while posing no real threat to seasoned hunters. They peck their food from the ground but also feed on carrion. In the Valley of Khorinis and the Valley of Mines they are widespread – the hunter Dragomir was hunting them near the Sun Circle when he was attacked by undead, and Cavalorn hunted them from his hut in the Valley of Mines. They are related to biters, which possess a maw with enormous teeth instead of a beak. Natural predators of scavengers, besides humans, include bloodflies, snappers, and wolves. In an unknown part of the island, the rarer [[creature:grassland-Scavenger|grassland scavengers]] evolved – perfectly adapted to their environment with green skin and considerably stronger than their common relatives. Among humans, scavengers are a popular source of meat and frequently hunted.
