Meatbug

Meatbugs are roughly hand-sized creatures with many legs that are always found in larger numbers. They prefer living near humans or orcs, feeding on their garbage and waste – which is how they have spread across the entire island of Khorinis and the mainland. Their small size lets them reach places inaccessible to larger creatures. They pose no threat whatsoever. Despite their unappetizing appearance, their cooked meat is edible and even tasty. In the penal colony during the time of the Barrier, the cook Snaf prepared his famous Meatbug Ragout à la Snaf with rice and mushrooms. The farmer Bengar is disgusted by them – "There are people who eat them. Revolting." – while the timid fieldworker Pardos at Bengar's Farm would take to his heels at the mere sight of a meatbug crawling across his path. In the Valley of Khorinis, the Valley of Mines, and Jharkendar they are ubiquitous. The monks of the old monastery in the Valley of Mines possessed spell scrolls that allowed one to temporarily assume the form of a meatbug.
