Fire Lizard
The fire lizard is a subspecies of the lizard that possesses the breath of fire, making it considerably more dangerous than its common relatives. The orcs of Khorinis call it fire reptile. Its unmistakable identifying feature is a large red crest running from head to tail. Within the Barrier, fire lizards looked frighteningly similar to their kin – only the red crest distinguished them. After the fall of the Barrier, their scales and crest are bright red, while on the mainland they bear a pronounced light-red crest. Like lizards, they inhabit coastlines, the deserts of Varant, and smaller valleys. In the Valley of Mines, they were found near the volcano, where the fire dragon Feomathar had transformed the surroundings into a scorching wasteland. In the Valley of Khorinis and Jharkendar, they live in groups alongside common lizards. Their flame tongue is one of the most precious trophies on Khorinis – required for crafting the powerful Great Fire Storm and Rain Of Fire runes and also one of the ingredients for the orcs' Ulu-Mulu, called KROTAHK in the orcish language. Rumors suggest that fire lizards are the result of magical experiments by a Fire Mage who attempted to combine a transformation spell with the summoning of a lesser demon – producing a fire-breathing reptile.
