Black Troll

The Black Troll is by far the most impressive creature in the wildlife of Khorinis. As the "big brother" of the common troll, it is even more massive – at least three meters tall, an estimated three tons in weight, with thick dark fur and leathery hide that protect it from steel weapons and projectiles of any kind. Despite its tremendous strength, it shares the weakness of all trolls: it is so sluggish that a nimble fighter who dodges its blows can defeat it in close combat. On Khorinis only a single specimen exists, living in seclusion in its cave in the Black Troll's territory high in the mountains. A peculiarity of its domain: the rare sun aloe, an herb with an intense almond-like scent, grows exclusively on the droppings of a Black Troll – a plant the herbalist Sagitta needs for a very rare potion. The hunter Grimbald, who has set up camp nearby, urgently warned the hero not to approach the Black Troll – and was all the more astonished when the hero actually slew the supposedly invincible creature. The Black Troll's tusks and pelt can be harvested as trophies. Even experienced hunters had not believed this species could be killed at all. On the mainland there are several Black Trolls, found mainly in Myrtana, but they differ significantly in appearance and are considerably weaker than their Khorinis relative. The mercenary Raoul bet that the hero could never bring back a Black Troll's pelt – and was deeply impressed when he actually did.
